Frequently Asked Questions

We will be adding more FAQs as we have time.  Thank you!

What's the difference between a 1-year rabies vaccine and a 3-year rabies vaccine?

A 1-year rabies vaccine costs $12 and covers your pet for 1 year.  A 3-year rabies vaccine costs $25 and covers your pet for 3-years.

Where can I get my rabies tags?  Does Just Animals carry them?

Unfortunately, Just Animals cannot carry rabies tags for every county we visit because the clinics just go to so many.  You can get your tags after we give you your rabies certificate by visiting your county animal control.

When will the clinic be back to ___________?

You can see the clinics that we have scheduled by visiting our Scheduled Clinics page.  If you don't see your area listed, keep checking back.  A good rule of thumb is that we try to be back to each area every three months.

What does my dog need?

This depends on your dog's age, what it has had before and when, and a few other factors.  Only rabies vaccines are required by law, but there are many other vaccines that are highly recommended.

If your dog has never had shots before, it will need a distemper shot, at the least.  The distemper vaccine will have to be boostered 4 weeks later.  If the dog is older than 14 weeks, it will also need the 1-year rabies vaccine.  Your dog must have a 1-year rabies vaccine the first time; after that it may have a 1-year or 3-year.

Generally, it is recommended that your dog have a rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, and heartworm test once a year.  Heartworm preventative and flea and tick preventative are also recommended.

If you board your dog, your dog will also need a bordetella vaccine, and if your dog spends a lot of time outside or goes hunting with you, it will need lepto and lyme vaccines.
